MUCH NEEDED INSPIRATION TRIP TO JOSHUA TREE
JC 💜
A huge part of the design process is exploring the latest trends within different cultures and markets.  AGENDA trade show caters to the streetwear, skate, and surf industry showcasing hundreds of brands for over 10 years. Below images represent the latest trend research and inspiration seen from the show. These are also key features for new designs in the works. Hope you enjoy!
S/S 14 examines acid modernism through psychedelic views of tropical landscapes and a sense of Fauvism. Exotic large scale floral / landscapes prints and graphics that evoke a connection between dreams and creativity. Designers appear to crave exuberant fashion glowing with bright colors and vibrant motifs which is can be seen in the trend research images below.
Key design components I’ve noticed trending for S/S 14:
-Platform wedge heels are magnified to oversized heavy effect
-Layered straps belt the foot with additional layers jutting down, over and across the heel and ankle
-Floral applications flourish at the rear of the heel for additional excess, over the top effect.
In recent designs I explored the influence of mathematics on design, and the fascination that mathematicians, as well as designers, have to keep searching for the ultimate symmetry found in everyday objects and in nature, in order to create new universal aesthetics. People may argue over the definition of great design, yet we are continually intrigued by the factors that make certain aesthetics universally appreciated. Reading literature on the golden ratio and the Egyptian mysteries, I have come to realize that by applying mathematical formulas to fashion, art and design it creates a new way to incorporate science into visual arts. I was most influenced by geometric patterns, prints, and laser cutting to create precision patterns that establish scientific properties in my latest designs. Below is an example of that. Hope you enjoy and thanks for taking a peek!
I have been extremely inspired lately and have a million and one ideas that I need to get out of my head and on to paper. During my design process I research and gather images, music, colors, literature etc. that inspire my designs, which in return give them life to grow. Nature has always been a main source of inspiration in my designs, because like my designs, it is always evolving and changing with time. Key design elements that captured my eye lately, and that I noticed have captured other designers attention aside from footwear, are features, colors, and trims that resemble the movement of the ocean. From ombre prints with iridescent beading and light flowing materials to shell surfaced hardware and coral inspired metallic trims. I create mood boards (like below) and scatter them around my loft to continually feed my right brain during the design process.
The main inspiration behind most, if not all good designs is the Golden ratio, or divine proportion. Its applications are limitless. It’s used in math, nature, art, and architecture. It’s alway been an inspiration behind my designs and art pieces.
The idea behind the golden ratio is if you divide a line into two parts so that: the longer part is divided by the smaller part, this is also equal to, the whole length divided by the longer part. Give it try it’s fun!
True Statement.
